Arisia was terrific. I have minor complaints, but overall it was so relieving to be in a safe space with like-minded folks. I was on several panels and my favorite was the bad advice panel. A woman who was cosplaying Toriel from Undertale asked, “my husband doesn’t spend enough time with the kids what should I do?”
My response, “first, have you tried handcuffs. Second, you need to stop cosplaying a good mother, maybe cosplay Hannibal Lechter instead.”
I also did a reading of a one-act play version of Fixing the System. I was worried it wouldn’t do well for a reading, but people really loved it. In fact, it was a far better response than when I did a reading of Cyber Revolution years ago.
Sarah Morrison, Arisia’s artist guest of honor, led a life drawing panel. Here are the drawings I made, two of them are of Sarah!
I was originally going to post these drawings last week, but opted to write about complying in advance instead. I considered similarly postponing in order to talk about the executive orders that were just signed attacking the safety and healthcare of trans kids. Ultimately I decided to opt for joy, which in itself is an act of defiance.
