Featuring Tokiko the Dino
I’m really happy with how this page came out. This was my first use of whispering in a graphic novel. I’m also having visions of a whole story around Tokiko, the dinosaur on Toby’s shirt.
I like that most people have come to accept the US is an oligarchy. The bigger problem is that we live in a kyriarchy. This is a word that’s fairly new to me but absolutely embodies the US from its origins to present day. The basic definition is a system built on oppression, submission, and domination. In order for this system to work there needs to be a set of people oppressed. In Nazi Germany it was the Jews and queer folks who were oppressed. In America it’s historically been non-white people. In today’s America it’s immigrants, queer folks, people with disabilities, women, and so on.
