TESSA Good question. Our research team believes it started with a viral TikTok video also titled "the gold ceiling". The phrase was based on the glass ceiling, which was coined by Marilyn Loden at the 1978 Women’s Exposition. In the TikTok video, the creator, Alphonso Patella, proclaimed that we should abolish billionaires and establish a gold ceiling. Maryam Tessa, why did he want this change? What caused it to go viral? TESSA Alphonso feels that billionaires horde assets and that nobody needs a billion dollars. Why it went viral is more complicated. The economic downturn, companies controlled by billionaires laying people off, the wealth of the top 1% has grown faster than the wealth of everyone else, and that's just for capitalist countries. TikTok originates in China and has shown to produce more collectivist media than capitalist based apps.
