I debated a bit how to represent Eloise looking suspiciously at Liza after her bright idea that Will took credit for. Hopefully the facial expression gets it across.
Wow, WorldCon was AMAZING. How have I been going to SciFi/Fantasy cons and never gone to WorldCon before?
I was on 10 panels. Two of the panels had Hugo nominees who went on to win! It was surreal. One of them was Lynne Thomas, who among other things is a member of the Verity Podcast of which I’ve heard every episode. We started chatting and I was like, “wait, you sound VERY familiar.” Here’s a photo I took of all the Hugo winners:
Beyond talking to really smart people about stuff I love, I also went to a “Free Mars” party held by Billions against Billionaires. They had some fun games and a zine. Here’s one of the posters from the party:
I was especially happy to hear a reading by Martha Wells and a reading by Becky Chambers. Martha Wells is on my to read list. Becky Chambers is one of my favorite authors. When she took audience questions two people talked about how impactful her books were to them and they started crying, which got us all crying:
I didn’t expect to get such positive feedback, especially since there were authors like Martha Wells, Becky Chambers, George RR Martin, and John Scalzi. I sold several books and got new subscribers here and on my BlueSky. I’m going to try to go to the next WorldCon, assuming it will still be safe to travel to it then.
